Plans are underway to transform the square in front of Lubart’s Castle into a modern, multifunctional space featuring restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, hotels, and recreational zones, according to Urbisair.
The city council has approved a detailed territorial plan covering the area between Zamkova, Katedralna, Bratkivskogo, and Glushets streets, extending to the Lesya Ukrainka Central Park of Culture and Recreation.
Mayor Ihor Polishchuk highlighted the urgency of revitalizing the area: “The vast square in front of the crown jewel of our city, Lubart’s Castle, can no longer remain in decay. Even amid challenging economic conditions, the current market owners are ready to implement a high-quality redevelopment project.”
The food market will be preserved, while additional features will include cafés, shops, conference halls, public spaces, and leisure areas for both residents and tourists.
To ensure the project respects the city’s cultural heritage, historians, local experts, and conservation specialists will be involved in developing the urban plan. The concept has been designed by PIUARCH, the architecture studio led by renowned architect Francesco Fresa, known for blending historic preservation with contemporary design.
The project also envisions a revamped market, a multifunctional commercial and service hub, landscaped zones around the castle, and upgraded parking infrastructure in the Old Town.
