Leo Express is introducing new Talgo trainsets into regular service from April 30, marking a significant upgrade to rail travel across Central Europe.
The trains will operate on key routes linking Prague with Bratislava via Olomouc, as well as connections to Prešov via Ostrava and Žilina, expanding connectivity across the Czech and Slovak rail network.
New Technology And Passenger Comfort
The Talgo S6 trainsets stand out for their low-floor design, barrier-free access and advanced engineering, including independently rotating wheels and a passive tilting system that improves ride comfort on curved tracks.
With a top speed of 200 km/h, the 13-carriage units can carry up to 350 passengers and are designed to deliver a smoother and quieter journey compared to conventional rolling stock.
Developed in collaboration with Renfe, the trains have been adapted for Central European conditions and now appear in Leo Express’s white-and-orange livery.
Refurbished Interiors And Spacious Seating
The interiors have been fully modernised, offering a bright open-plan layout and upgraded materials. Passengers benefit from generous seat pitch of up to one metre even in Economy class — among the most spacious second-class seating available in the region.
The trains feature two travel classes:
Economy (308 seats)
Business (40 seats)
Both classes include dedicated quiet zones designed for passengers seeking a more relaxed, low-noise environment.
Onboard Dining And Family-Friendly Features
Passengers can order food and drinks delivered directly to their seats or visit the onboard bistro carriage, a new addition across the Talgo fleet. Additional amenities include a minibar service, vending machines and, in Business class, self-service coffee and refreshments.
The trains also cater to families with a dedicated children’s zone, stroller space and facilities such as changing tables. Younger passengers can access tailored services including activity kits and special menu options.
Expanding Rail Options In Central Europe
According to CEO Peter Köhler, the introduction of Talgo trains represents a major step in bringing innovation to the Czech and Slovak railway markets, particularly with routes that have not previously been directly served.
Álvaro Fernández Heredia, head of Renfe Group, added that the partnership strengthens the company’s presence in Central Europe while enhancing service quality for passengers.
With tickets starting from €4, the launch combines competitive pricing with upgraded comfort, positioning Leo Express to compete more aggressively in the region’s growing rail market.
