Wizz Air has announced plans to reopen its base at Suceava International Airport in northeastern Romania, the international airport closest to Ukraine. The move will significantly expand low-cost connectivity from the region starting in mid-December 2025.
According to the airline’s official website, Wizz Air will station two aircraft at Suceava. From 15–18 December 2025, the carrier will begin operating seven new routes from the airport:

Milan Bergamo, Italy
Venice, Italy
Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Germany
Birmingham, United Kingdom
Larnaca, Cyprus
Brussels Charleroi, Belgium
In addition to the new routes, Wizz Air will increase flight frequencies to Dortmund from January 2026, raising the service to four flights per week.
With these additions, Wizz Air will offer a total of 13 routes to six countries from Suceava “Ștefan cel Mare” International Airport. Beyond the newly announced destinations, the airline already operates flights from Suceava to Vienna, Rome, London, Memmingen, and Milan Malpensa.
The reopening of the base strengthens Suceava’s role as a key regional aviation hub, particularly for travellers from western Ukraine, given its proximity to the border and relatively short travel times.
How to reach Suceava Airport from Ukraine
At present, the most convenient and affordable way to reach Suceava Airport from Ukraine is by passenger bus from Chernivtsi. The journey typically takes two to three hours, including border control.
Travellers report that queues at the Porubne–Siret border crossing are usually minimal, and in some cases the full journey can take as little as 1.5 hours, making Suceava an increasingly attractive departure point for Ukrainian passengers seeking low-cost flights across Europe.
The expansion underlines Wizz Air’s continued focus on secondary airports and cross-border demand, while positioning Suceava as one of the most accessible international gateways for travellers from northern Romania and neighbouring Ukraine.
