Wizz Air Strengthens Its Polish Base
Wizz Air has announced a significant expansion of its operations at Wrocław Airport, reinforcing its position as one of Poland’s key airlines. Starting in June 2026, the carrier will base a third modern Airbus A321neo in the city, opening three new routes to Reykjavik, Dortmund, and Varna.
The expansion complements previously announced destinations including Gran Canaria, Catania, and Ohrid. With the addition of the new aircraft, Wizz Air will increase frequencies on several popular routes such as Barcelona, Bari, Tirana, and Malaga. Tickets for the new flights are already available via wizzair.com and the WIZZ mobile app.
A Growing Network and Long-Term Commitment
Since launching operations from Wrocław in 2006, Wizz Air has carried nearly seven million passengers to and from the city. The upcoming addition of a third Airbus A321neo marks another major investment in Lower Silesia’s air connectivity, expanding the airline’s network to 22 routes across 17 countries.
This move demonstrates Wizz Air’s long-term commitment to the Wrocław region—supporting tourism, local business, and new employment opportunities. The new aircraft will also bring an additional 500,000 seats to the market, making international travel even more accessible to Polish passengers.
Between January and October 2025, Wizz Air operated over 50,000 flights to and from Poland, serving more than 11 million passengers—a nearly 20 percent increase compared with the same period in 2024. With a 99.8 percent completion rate, the airline continues to build its reputation for operational reliability and efficiency.
CEO József Váradi on Expansion
At a press conference in Wrocław, Wizz Air Chief Executive Officer József Váradi highlighted the importance of the airline’s expansion for both the city and Poland.
“Today marks another milestone for Wrocław and for Poland. By adding a third aircraft, launching three new routes, and increasing frequencies on existing favourites, we are continuing our ambitious growth plans in the country,” he said.
He added that the airline’s focus remains on affordability and accessibility: “This expansion is a testament to our commitment—to deliver simple, affordable, and enjoyable travel while fuelling regional growth and creating more jobs both directly with the airline and across associated industries.”
