In spring 2025, Vienna Airport and the Association of Airports of Ukraine of Civil Aviation (AAUCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen Ukrainian airports during the ongoing reconstruction process.
As part of this initiative, five specialized airport vehicles were donated to member airports in Ukraine during a delegation visit to Vienna from 26–28 August 2025. The donation includes two de-icing vehicles, two multi-functional airside vehicles, and one Unimog utility vehicle, aimed at helping Ukrainian airports rebuild and modernize their operations.
The MoU was signed by Artur Hordienko, President of the Charitable Fund “Help and Support,” Petro Lypovenko, President of AAUCA, and Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport and Vice President of the Austrian Airports Association (AÖV).
During the delegation visit, discussions focused on professional knowledge exchange in key areas including passenger experience, VIP and general aviation services, ground handling, cargo operations, airside services, and strategic airport development.
Supporting Ukrainian Airports in Challenging Times
“Ukrainian airports face extreme challenges due to the war, with many facilities destroyed and operations largely suspended. Our goal at Vienna Airport is to support them in preparing for the future and restoring safe, efficient, and passenger-oriented operations,” said Julian Jäger.
Petro Lypovenko added: “The urgently needed equipment and know-how exchange with our Austrian colleagues are helping us prepare for the future and rebuild the Ukrainian aviation sector as soon as possible.”
Long-Term Cooperation
The partnership emphasizes professional exchange, evaluation of synergies, and identification of joint market opportunities. Vienna Airport also plans to continue supplying technical equipment and special vehicles to Ukrainian airports, further strengthening operational infrastructure. With its strategic position as a transport and logistics hub between East and West and a stake in Kosice Airport near the Ukrainian border, Vienna Airport is well-placed to provide ongoing support to Ukraine’s aviation sector.
