Ukrzaliznytsia is expanding its women-only carriage initiative following strong demand, adding new routes from May 1, 2026.
The railway operator confirmed that dedicated women’s compartments will now be available on additional services connecting Kharkiv and Lviv with Odesa, as well as between Lviv and Kyiv.
The expansion follows consistently high usage rates. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, average occupancy of women-only compartments exceeds 92%, while passenger satisfaction levels reach 87% on the Net Promoter Score scale. On some routes, demand is so strong that effective occupancy surpasses full capacity due to passenger turnover at intermediate stations.
New routes added
Tickets are already on sale for the following trains departing from May 1:
No. 7 Kharkiv – Odesa
No. 12 Lviv – Odesa
No. 92 Lviv – Kyiv
As with previous services, women-only compartments are located in carriage number five and are clearly marked in the booking system and mobile app.
The concept continues to operate on a growing number of routes across the country, including connections from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro to destinations such as Uzhhorod, Yasinia, Truskavets and Ivano-Frankivsk.
No price difference
Ukrzaliznytsia emphasised that tickets for women-only compartments are priced the same as standard coupe tickets on the same routes, with no additional charges applied for the service.
With demand remaining high and tickets selling out quickly, passengers are advised to plan ahead and book early.
The initiative reflects a broader effort by the railway operator to improve passenger comfort and safety, particularly on long-distance routes, while responding to evolving customer expectations.
