Ukraine Consider Reopening One of the Airports

On Monday, February 26, the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, announced that Ukraine is working on reopening one of the airports, as reported by liga.net during his presentation of the “Made in Ukraine” program.

“We are working to open one of the airports. But it will happen only when all security issues are resolved. We understand how powerful it will be for the development of the economy,” stated Yermak.

However, he did not specify which airport might resume operations. Discussions about the resumption of air travel occasionally arise among high-ranking officials in Ukraine. In February 2024, Olivier Jankovec, the Director General of Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), stated that air travel in Ukraine could be restored by the end of 2024.

The Minister of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov, mentioned that Ukraine is in consultations with safety regulators in the United States and the European Union regarding the restoration of airspace. Ukraine is submitting official statements and risk assessments to the relevant regulators.

At the same time, Ukrainian aviation needs about a month for full preparation to start passenger transportation. The necessary work is awaiting only flight permissions.
