Russian Missile Strike Damages Key Railway Station in Lozova, Kharkiv Region

On August 5, Russian forces launched a missile strike targeting the railway infrastructure in the city of Lozova, Kharkiv region. The attack caused significant damage to the Lozova railway station, as well as critical infrastructure, residential apartment blocks, and private homes in the area.

According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS), at least 10 people were injured in the attack. Among the victims were five Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) workers—one mechanic was killed, and four others were injured. Medical assistance is currently being provided to all those affected.

Most people did not have time to reach shelter after the air raid alert was issued, due to the short time between the warning and the strike.

Railway Station Closed Indefinitely

Lozova Mayor Serhii Zelenskyi confirmed that the city’s railway station will be closed for an indefinite period. Ukrainian Railways is now working on alternative solutions for passenger service, including the possibility of setting up temporary boarding points outside the city.

“Unfortunately, the railway station will not operate for some time. There will also be issues with departures from Lozova, but Ukrainian Railways is addressing this. It’s possible that nearby locations will be designated for boarding passenger trains,” Zelenskyi said.

A Critical Transport Hub Under Threat

Founded in 1869, Lozova station is a major railway hub in eastern Ukraine. It serves as a key stop for changing locomotives on long-distance passenger routes, including trains to and from Sloviansk, Poltava, and other directions.

The damage to the station represents a significant blow to Ukraine’s transportation logistics, affecting both passenger travel and freight operations. Restoration of the infrastructure is expected to require significant time and resources.
