Ukraine’s first dedicated station for servicing and minor repairs of wheelchairs has opened at the UNBROKEN rehabilitation centre on Mazepy Street in Lviv, according to the city council.
The new station is designed to support wheelchair users with everyday maintenance needs. It allows users to inflate tyres, tighten or glue small components, wash wheelchairs and recharge electric models. An emergency call button is also installed at the station, sending a signal directly to a hospital post, after which medical staff can assist the person on site or provide a consultation. The centre noted that cyclists can also use the station.
At present, the station has been temporarily installed inside the building near the main entrance, as renovation work is ongoing at the centre. In this format, it is available daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Once renovation works are completed, the station will be relocated outdoors in front of the main entrance, where it will operate 24 hours a day.
The project was developed by students of the Lviv National Academy of Arts in collaboration with UNBROKEN mentor Pavlo Kozak. The station itself was manufactured free of charge by Metalworkshop, while repair tools were purchased with support from the Institute of the City and Carlsberg Ukraine.
UNBROKEN representatives said similar stations should be installed in other public spaces, including railway stations, near administrative buildings, banks and local government offices, to improve accessibility and everyday mobility support across the city and beyond.
