Ukraine is preparing to eliminate border stops for international trains, moving all passport and customs checks onboard while the train is in motion. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the new procedure, which aims to reduce travel times and streamline border formalities.
The system is already in place on selected Intercity+ services running to Poland, where border officers board the train and conduct checks during the approach to the frontier. The government now plans to extend this model to sleeper carriages on night routes.
Border guards and customs officers will carry out inspections inside the wagons while the train is moving toward the border. The first routes to adopt the new regime will be Kyiv–Przemyśl and Kyiv–Chełm.
“We expect accelerated in-motion control to launch on selected trains as early as January, with further expansion across these routes,” Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced.
