A new one-day tourist route has opened in the Chernivtsi region, bringing together some of the most spectacular natural and geological landmarks of Bukovyna. The 12-kilometre trail is fully prepared for visitors and already available for trip planning through a mobile app, according to the regional administration.
This is one of the region’s most scenic routes, a path that blends legends, wild nature and distinctive geological formations. The trail begins at the well-known Smuhar waterfalls in the village of Roztoky, also widely known as the Bukovynian Waterfalls. These cascading falls are especially impressive during the spring and after rains, when the water gathers strength and fills the valley with sound and movement.
From there, the trail continues towards Protyate Kaminnya, a unique rock formation famous for its natural arches, carved passages and stone “windows.” It is a place where the landscape feels shaped by both time and myth, and where local stories have long tied the rocks to the folklore of the region. The next landmark is Sokolyna Oko, a striking cliff offering sweeping views and a dramatic shift in landscape character.
The route concludes at Nimchych Pass, a picturesque mountain saddle known for its open views of the rolling Carpathian foothills. It provides a calm and panoramic ending to a trail that constantly alternates between rugged terrain and quiet scenes of nature.
Beyond the beauty of the sites themselves, the route stands out for its infrastructure. The entire trail has been freshly marked, with updated signage and clear orientation points to make the journey safe and intuitive even for first-time visitors. This thoughtful preparation makes it one of the most accessible scenic trails in the region.
The route is already available in the Bukovyna Travel app, offering digital navigation, recommendations and planning tools to help travellers tailor the experience to their pace and interests. For the Chernivtsi region, the launch marks another step in expanding nature-based tourism and encouraging visitors to explore the lesser-known corners of western Ukraine.
