Flooding in Kyiv

Flooding in Kyiv Is Expected to Peak on April 22

The peak of flooding in Kyiv is expected on April 22, said Roman Tkachuk, director of the Department of Municipal Security of the KMDA, on the air of the telethon, referring to the data of the Ukrhydrometeorological center.

According to him, emergency flooding in Kyiv has not yet been recorded: there is only flooding of floodplain areas, which are flooded almost every year during spring floods.

At the same time, this year’s water level is increasing by 0.5-1 meter compared to previous years, Tkachuk added.

Currently, the inundation of islands is recorded in Muromets Park, Hydropark, Trukhanovo Island, as well as Galernaya Bay, Korchuvaty, and private areas near Osokorki.

The reason for flooding in the KMDA is called seasonality, regular rainfall, as well as the fact that the Kakhovskaya HPP is not working at full capacity and other dams of the Dnieper HPP cascade are forced to regulate the situation.

As of 12:00 on April 17, the water level in the Dnieper is 9,359 centimeters (the critical level is 9,415 centimeters). That is, there are still 50-60 centimeters left before the critical level.
