Brewers Anheuser-Busch InBev and Anadolu Efes have agreed to merge their operations in Ukraine in an attempt to strengthen their position in a declining market.
In Ukraine, Euromonitor analysts predict beer total volume sales to register a GAGR of 2% and reach 1.9 billion litres in 2021. “Beer sales in Ukraine will see a better performance than in the last five year, when it recorded a total volume CAGR of -10% and a value CAGR of -6% at constant 2016 prices. The forecast period performance is expected to be better because in the review period the category was hit by drastic increases in excise taxes and a dramatic drop in purchasing power.”
According to Euromonitor International:
- In 2016, Ukranians consumed 1.9 bn litres of beer, down from 2.9 bn in 2011
- The Ukranian beer market is worth US$ 1.87bn, down from 1.75bn in 2011
