A Ukrainian Airline Is Quietly Making a Major Move in Europe

SkyUp Airlines is making a significant return to regular flight operations, now launching direct routes from Poland to popular Mediterranean destinations. The Ukrainian airline, which relocated to Chișinău, Moldova, after Ukrainian airspace was closed due to the ongoing war, has announced that beginning May 27, it will operate scheduled flights from Warsaw and Katowice.

Passengers can now book one-way tickets to Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Greece, with prices starting from €69 to €110. The routes are designed for travelers seeking affordable access to sunny vacation spots from two of Poland’s busiest cities.

The airline’s return to regular passenger service started in April 2025, marking the first such flights since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. SkyUp’s decision to begin flying from Poland is not just about new destinations—it’s about creating reliable links for leisure travelers, while adapting to the challenges of operating without a home base in Ukraine.

Currently based in Chișinău, SkyUp uses the Moldovan capital as a strategic hub close to Ukraine. From there, it has re-established a growing network. The launch of regular flights from Poland marks the next step in its European expansion and long-term recovery.

In 2023, SkyUp operated 10,528 flights across 664 routes to 53 countries, showing a 36% growth compared to 2022. The airline transported over 1.5 million passengers, up 24% year over year, and continued to employ a team of 1,139 aviation professionals.

While its own operations were disrupted, SkyUp stayed active by working under ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) contracts with several well-known international airlines. These included Tunisair, FlyOne, HiSky, Wizz Air Malta, Corendon Dutch, and FlyEgypt, among others.

The addition of routes from Warsaw and Katowice gives the airline more visibility in Central Europe and strengthens its presence in the leisure travel market. The destinations—Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Greece—are classic favorites for holidaymakers looking for sun-soaked beaches, history, and local cuisine. By offering low-cost fares, SkyUp may attract not just Polish tourists, but also international travelers flying through Poland.

With Poland increasingly acting as a key connection point for travelers in the region, and SkyUp committed to expanding its network even further, this move could mark the quiet beginning of a bold new chapter for the Ukrainian airline.
